Community Service Award Winner – 2016

Congratulations to Debby Mason!

Debbie Mason holding the community service awardEach year, NCTC recognizes someone in our community who exemplifies leadership, service, and dedication. This is the 30th year for the award, and each year, we find the recipient is truly deserving of this honor.

This year’s recipient is a long-time servant to her community and a well-known name to many. Debbie Mason’s volunteer spirit is far greater than just a job or career. Debbie will often be seen at the county fair, charity events, and parades—just to name a few.

In 2010, Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer. This diagnosis is never easy to hear and would have defeated many people. However, she fought a hard battle, as anyone with cancer does, and she was victorious!

Since that time, Debbie has been involved with various cancer-related organizations, including Sherry’s Run. Sherry’s Run helps individuals currently battling cancer with expenses incurred during treatment and also helps researchers get a little closer to finding a cure for this disease.

Like Sherry, whose memory the organization honors, the spirit this year’s community service award winner shows throughout life touches many people every day.

In addition to the commemorative plaque, Debbie also received a $1,000 check to be donated to Sherry’s run on her behalf.
